Greater Noida/Lucknow: At the inauguration of the UP International Trade Show 2024, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasized the critical role of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) as the second-largest employment sector after agriculture in Uttar Pradesh. He highlighted that the state, with 96 lakh MSME units across its 75 districts, boasts the largest MSME base in the country.
Speaking at the event, which hosted Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar as the chief guest, CM Yogi underscored the transformative impact of various state initiatives, particularly the One District One Product (ODOP) scheme. He noted how the program has revitalized traditional industries, helping artisans and craftsmen regain their footing in the market. “MSMEs have become key drivers of employment and economic growth in Uttar Pradesh,” Yogi said.
The Chief Minister also credited returning workers during the COVID-19 pandemic for strengthening the state’s economy. He explained that the government conducted skill mapping for the 40 lakh returning workers, facilitating job placements that supported their families and boosted the state’s economic health.
Yogi Adityanath further highlighted Uttar Pradesh’s progress under Prime Minister Modi’s vision of making India a five trillion-dollar economy, with the state on track to achieve a one trillion-dollar economy. He described UP as the “growth engine” of India’s development, pointing to the MSME sector’s pivotal role in this transformation.
In addition, the Chief Minister announced that any MSME unit affected by disasters could avail of financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh through online registration. He also mentioned the state’s rapid development of flatted factories and private industrial parks, further bolstered by the ODOP scheme. Uttar Pradesh now holds the highest number of 75 Geographical Indication (GI) tags in India, thanks to the program’s success.
During his speech, CM Yogi emphasized the state’s robust infrastructure, noting the operation of six expressways, 11 airports, and on going construction of 10 more, including the Noida International Airport. The Ganga Expressway, the longest in the country, is set to connect western and eastern UP before the Prayagraj Mahakumbh in 2025.
Yogi expressed optimism that the five-day trade show would showcase Uttar Pradesh’s products, potential, and cultural diversity to a global audience. With over 2,500 exhibitors and 350 foreign buyers attending, he extended his gratitude to Vietnam for partnering with the state in the event.
Several prominent figures, including Union MSME Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi and other state ministers, were present at the event’s opening ceremony
