Lucknow, May 9, 2025 – The CSIR-Central Drug Research Institute (CSIR-CDRI) marked National Technology Day 2025 with enthusiasm and intellectual vigor, hosting a special lecture as part of its Translational Research Lecture Series. The event highlighted the growing intersection of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and biomedical research, with a keynote address delivered by Dr. Anurag Agrawal, Dean of Biosciences and Health Research and Head of the Koita Center for Digital Health at Ashoka University.

Dr. Agrawal, the chief guest of the event, delivered a thought-provoking lecture titled “Is AI the New Language of Biology?” He emphasized that AI can be a powerful tool in biomedical research when used with intelligence and care. “Artificial Intelligence may be very useful for biomedical research if used intelligently,” he stated, underlining the importance of crafting effective prompts to guide AI systems toward meaningful insights.
Explaining the role of prompts in AI, Dr. Agrawal noted that they act as cues that help computers focus on a specific topic or task. In biomedical research, these intelligently designed prompts can play a vital role in identifying research priorities and addressing key challenges in healthcare.
The program began with a welcome address by Dr. Radha Rangarajan, Director of CSIR-CDRI, who set the tone for the day’s celebration. She later felicitated scientists, researchers, and innovators from the institute who have successfully developed technologies and filed patents, recognizing their contributions to India’s scientific progress.
A key highlight of the event was the release of the Institute’s Annual Report for 2024-25, reflecting significant achievements in drug discovery and pharmaceutical research over the past year.
Concluding the event, Dr. Arun K. Trivedi, Chairperson of the celebration, offered a heartfelt vote of thanks to the speakers, participants, and organizers. Dr. Vivek Bhosle was acknowledged for his role in successfully coordinating the program.
The celebration not only paid tribute to the spirit of innovation but also underscored the role of AI as a transformative tool in modern biosciences, echoing CSIR-CDRI’s commitment to cutting-edge research and technology-driven solutions for public health.
