Yogi govt to deploy specialist doctors in district hospitals and primary health centers
Government seeks applications for recruitment of doctors in 24 specialised categories, 1056 doctors to be deployed across the state; initiative to bring specialist care closer to home
Lucknow, August 13: In a significant move to improve healthcare access for the poor and needy, the Yogi government is set to deploy specialist doctors in district hospitals and primary health centers across Uttar Pradesh. The initiative aims to provide quality treatment for serious conditions such as liver, kidney, and heart diseases closer to patients’ homes, reducing the need for visits to private hospitals.
The decision comes as part of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s broader strategy to enhance healthcare services for the state’s vulnerable populations. The deployment process is already underway, with the government initiating an online application process through reverse bidding to fill these crucial positions in government hospitals.
To further attract specialist doctors to these roles, the Yogi government has also announced a significant salary hike for them. By bringing expert medical care closer to home, the government not only seeks to address the immediate health needs of the population, but also save lives by providing timely treatment to those who might otherwise go untreated due to financial barriers.
Principal Secretary, Medical Health and Family Welfare Parth Sarthi Sen Sharma mentioned that as per the wishes of CM Yogi, instructions have been given to deploy specialist doctors in district hospitals and PHCs to provide treatment to the patients of the state. In this sequence, under the National Health Mission, 1056 specialist doctors are to be deployed on contract basis through reverse bidding in 24 special categories.
He further said that to attract healthcare experts, the government has significantly revised their salary structure. The new provisions include a salary of up to Rs 5 lakh per month for specialist doctors, a substantial increase from the previous cap of Rs 1.2 lakh per month. He mentioned that doctors will be deployed at district hospitals and PHCs on the basis of L-1 to L-3 rate.
Positions now open for application until Sept 5
Dr. Pinky Jowal, Secretary of Medical Health and Family Welfare and Mission Director of the National Health Mission (NHM), said that applications have been sought for 1,056 specialist doctor positions across 24 categories. Interested candidates can apply online at [NHM Recruitment Portal](http://nhmrect.upnrhm.gov.in) until 12 noon on September 5.
Among the 24 special categories, the highest demand is for 264 anesthetists, followed by 181 pediatricians, 178 general physicians, 147 gynecologists, 126 medicine specialists, 79 surgeons, 48 orthopedic surgeons, and 45 radiologists. Applications are also being sought for various other specialist roles.
She mentioned that the deployment of these specialists will be distributed across multiple districts, including 61 in Lucknow, 41 in Varanasi, 24 in Kannauj, and 23 in Azamgarh, among others. She then informed that as of 5 p.m. on August 12, 728 doctors have registered for these vacancies, with 216 having submitted their applications.
The 24 special categories include roles such as General Surgeon, Ophthalmologist, Anesthetist, Chest Physician, Consultant Medicine, Pediatrician, Orthopedic Surgeon, MD Medicine, Physician/General Medicine, ENT Specialist, Full Time Psychiatrist, Gynecologist, Microbiologist, Pathologist, Senior Consultant, Consultant, Radiologist, Physician, Surgeon, Gastroenterology, Cardiologist, Endocrinology, Nephrology and Neurology, reflecting a broad range of medical specialties to enhance healthcare services statewide.
