UP's homemakers poised to become trailblazing food entrepreneurs, Training push to elevate entrepreneurial quality and production capacity

Lucknow: Women in Uttar Pradesh are turning culinary skills into thriving enterprises, stepping beyond domestic kitchens into the world of entrepreneurship. Backed by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the state has approved Rs 121.91 crore under the PM Micro Food Industry Upgradation Scheme to modernize rural food units with advanced technology and key resources.
The scheme brings new hope, particularly to women homemakers and traditional artisans who have long aspired to self-employment. It will support formalising businesses producing pickles, papad, namkeen, organic products, and other traditional food items. Beneficiaries will receive technical assistance, training, access to plant and machinery, and support for enhancing production quality and capacity. Improved branding and packaging will help local products reach state, national, and international markets.
Out of the total approved amount, Rs 84.91 crore will be disbursed as subsidies to entrepreneurs. In addition, Rs 9.50 crore has been allocated for business services, Rs 3.50 crore for training and administrative expenses, and Rs 24 crore for plant and machinery. Furthermore, Rs 2.52 crore and Rs 17.01 crore have been earmarked under two other important categories.
The government will also support critical technical aspects, including quality control, brand development, testing laboratories, and business management.
This initiative represents more than just economic investment—it marks a step toward social transformation. As rural women establish their food enterprises, they will enhance their family income and uplift their social status. The scheme is a significant push toward women’s empowerment and increased participation in the rural economy.
The Yogi government is committed to ensuring this scheme’s benefits reach the intended beneficiaries with complete transparency. All expenses will adhere strictly to the action plan and guidelines the state and central governments set.
Now, the women of Uttar Pradesh are no longer confined to household responsibilities. They are being empowered to emerge as successful food entrepreneurs, contributing to the state’s economic and social development.
