Udhampur: One Para Commando Martyred, Two Injured in Ongoing Operation Days After Pahalgam Attack

In a fresh counter-terror operation in Jammu and Kashmir’s Udhampur district, an elite para commando of the Indian Army was martyred and two others were injured during a fierce encounter with terrorists on Thursday. The gunfight erupted just two days after the deadly Pahalgam attack that claimed 26 lives.

Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in the Dudu-Basantgarh area after receiving intelligence inputs about the presence of militants. During the operation, contact was established, and a heavy exchange of fire followed.

According to sources, the martyred soldier was a para commando from the Army’s Special Forces unit. The two injured personnel also belong to the same battalion and are currently under medical treatment.

In a statement posted on X, the White Knight Corps said, “Based on specific intelligence, a joint operation with Jammu and Kashmir Police was launched today in the Basantgarh area of Udhampur. Contact was established and a fierce firefight ensued.”

The army further confirmed, “One of our bravehearts sustained critical injuries in the initial exchange and later succumbed despite the best medical efforts.” The operation is still ongoing, and additional reinforcements have been sent to the area.

This action follows the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which left 26 people dead. Intelligence sources suggest the terrorists involved in the Udhampur encounter may be linked to a larger group that infiltrated across the international border in Hiranagar and was previously spotted near Saniyal village on March 23.

Search Operation in Poonch Also Underway

Meanwhile, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district, security forces have launched a separate search operation in the Lasana forest area after receiving inputs about suspected terrorist movements. Troops from the Army’s Romeo Force, along with Jammu and Kashmir Police and CRPF, are involved in the ongoing efforts to locate and neutralize the suspects.
