Empowering Youth to Save Lives: Trauma First Aid and Hands-Only CPR Training at SHEPA College

Varanasi: In a significant stride toward building a safer and more responsive India, Dr. Daud Husami, a national EMS (Emergency Medical Services) expert and Head of the Emergency Medicine Learning Center at EMRI Green Health Services (EMRI GHS), led a high-impact Trauma First Aid and Hands-Only CPR training session for the students of SHEPA College, Varanasi.

The training program aimed to equip young citizens with practical, life-saving skills that can make the difference between life and death in critical moments following an accident or medical emergency. Attended by enthusiastic youth from diverse academic backgrounds, the session focused on empowering them as first responders in a country where trauma-related fatalities continue to pose a significant public health challenge.

“Every trained individual is a multiplier of safety. Youth are the first witnesses at many roadside incidents — if they know how to manage bleeding, handle fractures, or deliver CPR, they can become lifesavers,” said Dr. Daud Husami.

Key Highlights of the Training:

  • Trauma First Aid Skills:
  • Managing bleeding using direct pressure and improvised tourniquets
  • Stabilizing fractures and spinal injuries
  • Safe victim movement techniques
  • Hands-Only CPR:
  • Recognizing cardiac arrest
  • Performing high-quality chest compressions
  • Ensuring scene safety and activating emergency response systems

Participants were given hands-on practice using manikins and real-life emergency scenarios, ensuring not just theoretical knowledge but practical confidence.

A Step Toward Safer Roads and Resilient Communities

This initiative aligns with India’s broader road safety and emergency care mission, supported by organizations such as: EMRI Green Health Services (EMRI GHS), India’s pioneer in prehospital emergency care, Young Indians (Yi), Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)

With road traffic injuries being a leading cause of death in India — especially among youth — first responder training has emerged as a critical public health intervention. By sensitizing college students, EMRI is creating a growing network of citizen responders who can act immediately until professional help arrives.

Collaboration and Vision

This training is part of the continuing efforts under the “Mission: Advanced Road Safety” initiative led by Dr. Husami, which combines emergency education, trauma research, and systemic advocacy for safer infrastructure and community preparedness.

The collaboration with SHEPA College reflects a growing awareness in educational institutions about integrating emergency preparedness into student development.

Looking Forward

Dr. Husami and EMRI Green Health Services aim to scale such programs across colleges and universities in Uttar Pradesh and beyond, helping realize the vision of a trained, responsive, and resilient citizenry.

“Preparedness saves lives. We don’t just train students — we create lifesavers,” said Dr. Husami
